Is That a Moldy Peaches Song I Hear in the Atlantis Commercial?

Posted on October 6th, 2008

OK, look: we all gotta make a living, I understand that. But this commercial for the family resort Atlantis featuring the Moldy Peaches single “Anyone Else But You” is kind of crazy. The song was made famous by Juno and to many it will remain a delicate and simple love song that Paulie Bleeker (Michael Cera) and Juno (Ellen Page) sing to each other. Whenever I hear it I think of things like falling in love with your best friend, teenage crushes, loving someone warts and all, etc. You know what I don’t think of? Swimming with dolphins and golfing.

This is the cheesy kicker: The commercial changes the lyrics to better suit a commercial aimed at getting families to go on fun-filled vacations in the Bahamas. For example, in the original song, the first phrase goes like this:

You’re a part time lover and a full time friend/The monkey on you’re back is the latest trend/I don’t see what anyone can see, in anyone else/But you.

And has been changed to the following for the commercial:

Let’s go ride a couple of dolphins/Or maybe play tennis or do some golfin/Oh what a wonder/A wonderful world can be.

Sigh. To see the whole thing for yourself and let me know if this breaks your heart a little,

PopSugar UK's Must Haves For SeptemberThis month I’m looking forward to various acting treats. There are two big films hitting our cinema screens on 5 September, and then the excitement of live performance as a major US actor takes to the West End stage. I’m also excited for the DVD release of three movies. To see what I’ll be buying a ticket for, and putting in my shopping trolley, just hit “Start”.

Drew Whips Back Into Smiles and Laughter Post-Breakup

Posted on October 6th, 2008

Drew Barrymore jumped right into work on her directorial debut, Whip It!, with her costar Ellen Page in Saline, MI, a few days ago. Breakups can be hard — especially when you are an inseparable PDA-intense couple — but it looks like this project is just the distraction Drew needs to keep that big smile on her face after splitting with Justin. Still, it can’t be fun to hear the rumors that Justin’s healing his own breakup wounds with Kirsten Dunst.

Pop A DVD In: Juno

Posted on October 6th, 2008

One of my favourite recent movies – Juno – is released on DVD on Monday, and I’m super-happy I can add it to my collection.

If you didn’t catch it at the cinema, it’s a warm-hearted film centered on 16 year old Juno Macduff (Ellen Page). She’s an uber-hip girl who finds herself pregnant after sleeping with her best friend Bleeker (Michael Cera) and decides to give her baby up for adoption to a perfect couple.

The characters are awesome and adorable, the soundtrack is fab, Allison Janney and JK Simmons play Juno’s parents (surely a nominee for best on-screen parents ever?) and the film made me laugh and cry. My girl Buzz totally agrees, and gives more details, for those who haven’t seen it.

Ellen Page was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in the film, and Diablo Cody won for her original screenplay. As a side note, Diablo’s book Candy Girl – about her time stripping – is a really interesting and funny read.

But back to the movie – I’d highly recommend you either rent or buy the movie when it comes out on Monday. There’s a whole bunch of fun featurettes, screen tests, a commentary by Director Jason Reitman and Diablo, deleted scenes, gag reels, and a fun cast and crew jam! I’ll leave you with Juno and Bleeker in song…

Golden Popcorns Are Passed Out

Posted on October 6th, 2008

Last night we remembered some of our favorite movies from 2007 (yes, they seem like forever ago) but of course the actors reminded us of all their upcoming films — or in Robert Downey Jr’s case, his current hit Iron Man. The movie won the award for Best Summer Movie So Far. It’s hilarious that that’s even a category. Ellen Page continues to remain humble after winning yet again for Juno while Megan Fox was the opposite for winning best movie, Transformers. She closed the show cursing to the crowd to get us psyched up for her movie’s sequel but we cared more about trying to figure out why Shia wasn’t there. To see all the winners from the night click here.
